Happy Christmas Eve Fools.

YOU KNOW WHAT I LIKE? No? Don't care? Well, I'm going to tell you anyway. 'Cause I'm eighteen, I do what I want. In my family, we have this thing where right before we go to bed, we get to open one present on Christmas Eve. It's usually the traditional; slippers or pajamas. (Never know which you're going to get though. ooOOooo) Well, I just opened mine about ten minutes ago. PAJAMA PANTS. Win. I like pajama pants. I wear whatever shirt I find, but I find pajama PANTS to be special-er. I like them. Especially the ones that have Snoopy and Woodstock all over them. I like Snoopy. And Woodstock. I love Charlie Brown. ...Oh. Yeah. That's what I got. Snoopy pajama pants. Right, well, it's almost Christmas. So.. Happy Christmas. (Because we say 'Happy' for every other holiday, even birthdays, so I feel it's appropriate.) The end. To all a good night.

Peace,
Bree

Let me make your world (and your day).

Every so often I find little well made indie videos that don't feature ugly people talking to each other. This is one of them.

Hey! Sorry we left you hangin'!

Not to turn this into one of those, "Sorry we haven't posted in forever because you hang on to our every word, BLARG!" but seriously... I'm sorry we haven't been posting regular updates. We've all been really busy trying to do a bunch of crap that our lives required us to do. Daniel had a string of finals that needed work, I had a big list of BS that ended in triumph that I'll discuss on the next show, and Bree... probably had to go to the hospital again or something.

But the thing is, that's all over! It's done! We're free! Free at last! Halle-frickin'-luja! So you can actually expect this to be updated a bit more (at least by me, I can't speak for my co-hosts since they be lazy) and I think that the good times are here again! New Things that I Like will be posted tomorrow!

Dead Like Me

Aight dudes, here's the skinny. Around 2003-2004 Showtime had an incredibly hilarious show about death. The protagonist was one of several "reapers" who went around and made sure people passed on properly into the next life. It's a little complicated, but all you've got to know is that it's terribly entertaining.

It was cancelled after two seasons but hold on! They made a movie that was released as a direct to DVD this year. You should totally check it out, and we shall concur on how great the series was on the next podcast!

Rain/Winter Songs

It's raining and it's cold. Here are some songs that give me that feeling.

Grizzly Bear - "Easier"

This song always reminds me of my audition on the east coast and coming down on that airplane, looking at the entire world covered in snow. I don't think I like Grizzly Bear's newer album as much as I liked this one. Maybe that's just because Barnes and Noble played the new one for three months straight.

Led Zeppelin - "The Rain Song"

How could this song not be on this list? What are you stupid? Geez...

Fever Ray - "Keep The Streets Empty For Me"

Reminds me of the ARCTIC THUNDRAH! Probably my favorite song on the album.

Hum - "Why I like The Robbins"

Nice bass groove, and grungy enough to remind me of the rain.

Kupek - "I-90 / How Many Miles To You?"

Nirvana - "Come As You Are"

Abso-friggin-luteley is this song on the list. DUH.

Loney Dear - "Like, half of their songs. Seriously."

This is "I Was Only Going Out". Kinda cute lil indie song.

Pelican - "Aurora Borealis"

Another band that could have half their songs on the list. Live version.

Mountain Goats - "1 John 4:16"

A great rain song, especially when you listen to the lyrics.

Radiohead - "Faust Arp"

Not much to say, it's a beautiful lil song.

Bomb The Music Industry! - "Get Warmer"

Whole different perspective on bein' cold, eh?

Spoon - Vittorio E.

Nice way to end the night, with your windows opaque from rain.

G'night

Hey Kids! Comics!

I've made my love for Scott Pilgrim no secret and at the risk of sounding like a gushing fanboy (which I totally am), I'ma show this piece that O'Malley planned to use for Volume 4 of the series, but ultimately decided against it for some unfathomable reason. Lisa Miller's bits in that book were part of the reason that Volume 4 is very near and dear to me. I can't wait for volume 6 next year or the movie.

Review the chaos.

Of my two co-hosts, I'm probably the only one who actually reads recreationally on a regular basis (hey, you wanna write professionally, you gotta surround yourself with lit, even when pictures and spider-man aren't involved). One of my good friends, Teagan, lent me her copy of World War Z by Max Brooks, and its one of the best books I've read in a while.

World War Z is not a conventional zombie tale; in fact, it's not that conventional of a novel at all. The story deals with the advent of a Zombie outbreak that takes the world by storm, but deals with it in an oral history narrative, with the tale being told in hundreds of short vignettes from fictional characters that experienced the war as it happened. Because of this, the reader doesn't just get a story that moves forward, we see what lifestyle changes and challenges all the world had to go through in this hardship. One man had to develop castles as a fortress, another was soldier that barely escaped the biggest zombie conflict alive, one was just a humble suburban family that had to witness his family being torn apart in front of his eyes. That's what's most striking: You will believe that a zombie outbreak did occur a few years ago thanks to how startlingly realistic this work feels.

I really enjoyed this book. It follows the mentality that I think all zombie stories should follow: Focus on why the zombie outbreak would affect us as people, not how scary this would be if it was happening. If you create an immersive enough tale, the scares will come on their own.
